Joe G. Salas, 80, a longtime resident of Ojitos Frios, passed away on Tuesday, June 11, 2013, in Chapelle.

He was born in Las Vegas on Sept. 3, 1932, to the late Rumaldo Salas and Guadalupita Roybal-Salas.
He was a loving companion, father, grandfather, brother and uncle. He enjoyed ranching, roping, playing cards, driving his truck, watching western movies, listening to country music and caring for his animals. He also went out of his way to help anyone in
He is preceded in death by his parents, Rumaldo and Guadalupita Salas; brothers, Manuel Salas and Teodoro Salas; sister, Enriqueta Salas; and nephew, Roy Ortiz.
He is survived by his companion, Herminia Romero of Chapelle; son and daughters, Johnny Romero and wife, Mary of Las Vegas, Cindy Romero of Santa Fe, Rebecca Romero and companion, Frank, Rachael Romero all of Chapelle, Laura Rios of Albuquerque; grandchildren, Jasmine, Cody, Sierra, Bubba and Isaiah; sisters and brother, Aurora Salas of Las Vegas, Pita Ortiz of Ojitos Frios, Florentino Salas of Ojitos Frios, Helen Valencia and husband Fidel Sr. of Las Vegas; nephews, Clarence Ortiz, Michael Ortiz, Fidel "Champ" Valencia, Jr., Ronnie Valencia, Mark Valencia; numerous other relatives and many friends.
Rosary services will be conducted at 7 p.m. today (Friday) at Our Lady of Sorrows Church in Las Vegas. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Our Lady of Sorrows Church, with Father Anthony Akabogu as celebrant. Interment will follow at Santo Niño de Atocha Cemetery in La Manga, with the following serving as casket bearers: Clarence Ortiz, Ronnie Valencia, Champ Valencia, Frank Gonzales, Michael Ortiz, Gabriel Rivera, Mark Valencia and Cody Grossette. Serving as honorary bearers will be his remaining grandchildren, great-niece, Stacey Romero and great-nephew, Gavin Romero.
