Andres G. Sanchez

icon February 4, 1926 - March 28, 2014 Mr. Andres Gilberto Sanchez, age 88, of Calabasas, California, passed away on Friday, March 28, 2014 at the West Hills Hospital, California. A Catholic Mass will be held on Saturday, April 5th at 10 a.m. at the Mission Rey Church located at 15151 San Fernando Mission Blvd., Mission Hills, California. There will be a viewing following the Mass from 11:00 a.m to 2:30 p.m. at the Mission Hills Catholic Mortuary 11160 Stranwood Avenue, Mission Hills, followed by a reception at noon. Mr. Sanchez was born on the 4th of February 1926 in Nuevo Laredo, Mexico to his parents Ignacio and Teofila Sanchez. He became a naturalized American Citizen. Andres was the second of four children. Mr. Sanchez served in the U.S. Army, Company A, 121st infantry during World War II, and from 1948 to 1950 he served as a Corporal in the U.S. Marine Corps. Mr. Sanchez is an alumnus of North Texas University. He went on to have a distinguished career of over 35 years as a U.S. Foreign Service Officer for the U.S. Department of State. In 1968 Mr. Sanchez received a Meritorious Honor Award for his outstanding service and devotion to duty over a sustained period, and accomplishments beyond ordinarily expected. His concluding post for the U.S. State Department as a Foreign Service Officer was done in Lima, Peru as the U.S. Consul General for the U.S. Department of State. Mr. Sanchez married Maria del Carmen Fernandez Diz in Vigo, Spain on April 28, 1957. Andres will be remembered by his loving wife of 57 years and his son and daughter-in-law, Andre Sanchez and Rosanne De Benedetti, his daughter and son-in-law Stella and Iain Neil, and daughter and son-in-law Michele and Jim Shea. He is also survived by his grandson, Andrew Neil and his sister, Maria Elena Juarez. Arrangements are being made for his interment at the Riverside National Cemetery.
