Brian Hewins

Hewins, Brian H
Feb. 5, 1943 - Feb. 9, 2013
Brian passed away peacefully at home with his family beside him after a seven-month battle with glioblastoma. Brian was born to Evelyn and Elvin Hewins in Washington, DC. He spent most of his childhood in Evansville, Indiana, graduating from Bosse High School in 1960. He attended Dartmouth College, graduating in 1964 and continued his education at Temple University Medical School in Philadelphia. After an Internship at University of Wisconsin, Madison, he served two years at Ft Sill, Oklahoma, in the Army before continuing his training at County USC Hospital in Los Angeles as a radiology resident. For the next thirty-five years he was a partner in Arcadia Radiology Medical Group. After a brief semi-retirement in Arizona he returned to California to practice at Torrance Memorial Medical Center until the time of his diagnosis. He was an avid reader, runner, windsurfer and skier. Also a good golfer, he played at San Gabriel Country Club and the Rim Club in Arizona. Though rarely admitting to a good game, he was eager to return to the course with friends. His real joy in life was his family. Wife, Bobbi, daughters Becki Larsen (Tom), Julie Leroux (David), as well as eight wonderful grandchildren survive him. He is also survived by his father, Elvin, brothers Dan and Bill, and sister Martha Schriver.
At Brian's request there will be no public service. Memorial donations may be made in his name to Vitas Hospice, 1343 N. Grand Ave., Suite 100, Covina, CA 91724, or City of Hope, 1500 E. Duarte Rd, Duarte, CA 91010.
