Adams, Charles R. the founder and Chairman Emeritus of Chad Therapeutics, Inc. Chatsworth died Wednesday in Northridge after a long illness. Adams who founded Chad in 1982 was considered a pioneer in the development and marketing of unique products used in the delivery of home oxygen therapy. Before retiring from an active role in the company's management in 1998, he served as Chad's Chairman and President during its formative years and guided its growth as a major medical device manufacturer during the 1980s and 90s. The Entrepreneurial Institute recognized his successes at Chad by awarding him their ``Entrepreneur of the Year in Health Care Award" in 1994. The US Chamber of Commerce and Inc. Magazine a year later also recognized him with their ``Blue Chip Enterprise Award." Before founding Chad, Adams enjoyed a long and successful career in the pharmaceutical industry including serving for over 15 years as President and CEO of Riker Laboratories (now 3M Pharmaceuticals) in Northridge. Over the years he has served as an officer and director of numerous organizations including the San Fernando Valley Wine and Food Society, the Health Industry Manufacturers Association, the Pharmaceutical Manufacturers' Association, the Northridge Hospital Foundation, and the West Valley YMCA. Born on September 4, 1927 in Oklahoma and raised in Teague, Texas, Adams attended Texas A & M University before serving in the US Navy during World War II. Following the war he received his BA in chemistry from Baylor University. His wife Janice, three daughters Cynthia Lawson, Molly Ewing, and Leslie Madison and a son James Madison, survive him. He is also survived by four grandchildren Katie Ewing, Robert Charles Ewing, Azure Adams, and Benjamin Charles Madison. Services will be held on Tuesday July 3, 2001 at 10:30 AM in the Old North Church at Forest Lawn Mortuary, Hollywood Hills. Visitation will be at that mortuary on Monday July 2nd from 4 to 9 PM. In lieu of flowers please make donations to Baylor University PO Box 97026 Waco, Texas 76798-7026 for the Charles Adams Memorial Fund.
