David C. Williams

David C. Williams, 56, of Hermosa Beach, CA, passed away on May 14, 2013 after a short but courageous battle with cancer. For the past fifteen years Dave's professional life was in beach volleyball, most recently as managing director of beach programs for USA Volleyball. He will be remembered by his family and many friends for his quick wit, zest for life, and sense of humor. Born in 1957 in Steubenville, Ohio, Dave grew up in nearby Brilliant, graduating from Buckeye North High School in 1975. He went on to Ohio State University, receiving his B.A. degree in marketing and organizational communications in 1981. He was a life member of the Ohio State President's Club and a proud brother of Sigma Chi fraternity. Dave's first job after graduation was as a district manager for Pabst Brewing Company. He later held executive management positions with Café au Lait, Vie De France Bakery Corporation, Mauna Loa, and Pepsi. In 1997-1998, he served as managing director for the Women's Professional Volleyball Association, and from 2001 to 2010 he was tour operations director for the Association of Volleyball Professionals. Dave coordinated over 150 professional volleyball tournaments in his time with the AVP, before joining USA Volleyball in April 2010. Dave was was preceded in death by his mother, Barbara (Logan) Williams. Surviving are his father and step-mother, Charles J. and JoAnn Williams of Brilliant; sister, Carol Bush of Granville, OH and her children Justin, Adrienne, and Ryan; sister, Nancy Williams and her husband Jim Casebolt of Evergreen, CO and her step-sons Matt Casebolt, his wife Turid, and their children Conrad, Zoe, and Max, and Zack Casebolt, his wife Kim, and their children Ethan, Kylee, and Jayden; brother, Doug Williams and his wife Laraine of Bristol, TN and their children Dana and Logan; and step-sister, Lisa Thiel, her husband Dave and their daughters, Sydney and Ally of Jacksonville, FL.
Friends are invited to celebrate Dave's life on Saturday, June 1 at 2:00 p.m. at the First United Presbyterian Church in Brilliant, Ohio.
