Emily N. Mayne

February 8, 1952 - May 29, 2013
Emily Mayne was born in Florida but spent most of her adult life in California. A professional dancer, performer, and teacher of dance and yoga, she graduated from Antioch University with a B.A. and then went on to obtain her Masters Degree in dance choreography from UCLA. She met her husband and musical collaborator Mr. Ronald A. Wagner in 1989 and performed contemporary dance/percussion concerts with him under the name Rhythmic Visions. Emily spent many years studying classical Asian dance, including Bharata Natyam, the classical dance of South India. Her Bharata Natyam teacher was the renowned Bala Saraswati and Emily performed numerous concerts of this highly specialized dance both in North America and India. She also spent time in Java, learning the art of Javanese masked dancing. In addition to her extensive performing career, she taught yoga, ballroom dancing, tap dancing and ballet in the Los Angeles Community Colleges, and helped many students learn the joy of dancing and the art of self healing through yoga.
Memorial will be at Live Arts LA, 4210 Panamint Street (on the corner of Eagle Rock Blvd.) Los Angeles, CA 90065 on June 23rd from 2-5pm.
