Dec. 22, 1941 - April 12, 2013
Born in Tainan, Taiwan, Fu-Hsing Chen was the fourth of five children. After completing undergraduate studies in 1968, he married his wife, Jyu Yuan, and together they settled in Los Angeles. After his two sons were born, he dedicated his life towards providing for his family what he never enjoyed as a child. He was sincere and honest, never arrogant or flashy. He began to suffer from Multiple System Atrophy around 2003. After coming to terms with his new reality, he set out to make a positive difference. Partnering with UCLA
, he founded a program to support research towards finding a cure for neurodegenerative diseases. His strength in fighting his disease allowed him to witness weddings of both his sons, and births of his four extant grandchildren. Laughter from his wife, children, and grandchildren gave him great joy and inner peace in his final days. On April 12, 2013, Fu-Hsing passed away peacefully at home in his sleep. Fu-Hsing was everyone's dear friend for life. We will always miss him.
His memorial service will be held Friday April 19th, 2013 at Forest Lawn in Glendale.
