Hans Schneid passed away peacefully, surrounded by his immediate family in Los Angeles, California on August 21, 2012. Hans Schneid was born in Heidelberg Germany, the oldest of six children, the only son of Luise and Albert Schneid born on February 29, 1924 – a leap year child.
Hans resided and attended University in Heidelberg until he was drafted into the army as a young man during the Second World War. The war effort created many life lessons which Hans would recall and share often with his family and friends, including his P.O.W. experiences over a four year period. As an accountant his services were put to work and Hans was moved throughout North Africa and Europe until the Second World War ended and Hans returned to Heidelberg to complete his education and set out to establish his career.
In 1955, Hans came to the United States of America and pursued the American Dream. While in New York, he met Sonja Sidonia Kirschner, who would soon become his wife and partner for the next 55 years. The pair married on January 12, 1957. The couple adventured by car through the American landscape on their honey moon, eventually reaching Tampico, Mexico.
San Francisco and Los Angeles were favorite American cities of Hans and Sonja and eventually their homes, businesses and family were permanently established in Southern California. The couple has one daughter together, born Patricia Ann in 1958.
Hans was a successful entrepreneur, along with his wife, the couple flourished together as a team. They traveled often outside of the United States and had many acquaintances and friends abroad related to their business and family ties in Germany. Naturalized citizens, Hans never gave up his love of watching soccer matches and sports, playing chess, discussing politics, hosting a great meal or acquiring collectables. He had a passion for travel, cars, horses and horticulture - all of which he acquired, enjoyed and shared with his family.
Patricia brought much joy to her father and followed in her father's footsteps as an entrepreneur after completing University degrees in California and owning her own businesses. Hans also expressed great admiration for his son-in-law Ken W. Mariash, Sr. who along with his wife Patricia Ann Mariash create large scale real estate developments and businesses which Hans enjoyed discussing and understanding.
As part of The Greatest Generation - Hans leaves behind family ties in both the United States and Germany. The family on both continents will greatly miss Hans, his love of life, enthusiasm for adventure and engaging personality. Hans is survived by his wife (Sonja S. Schneid), daughter (Patricia A. Mariash), son-in-law (K.W. Mariash, Sr.) and one sister in Germany, (Elfriede Wisch) along with many nieces and nephews, their spouses and their children.
Hans Schneid was laid to rest during at a privately held memorial service in the presence of his immediate family on August 24, 2012 at The Rose Hills Memorial Park in Whittier, California – 3888 S. Workman Mill Road - USA
