J. Paul Sutton, known as Paul, passed away peacefully on October 10, 2012 in Reno, Nevada at the age of 88 from complications of age. Paul was born on June 18, 1924 in Excelsior, Minnesota to Luverne and Hazel Sutton, where he was raised with his sisters Mary and Patricia and his brother Robert. He attended Washburn High School where he excelled in football and basketball and was the Senior Class President. He went on to the University of Minnesota
where he was a star varsity football and basketball player and received a Bachelor's Degree in Aeronautical Engineering. He was a member of the Phi Kappa Psi fraternity. Upon graduation he proudly served in the United States Navy
. After the war he followed his family to California where he began working in the field of aeronautics, where he enjoyed a successful career in management and later ownership of several companies. He retired to the Reno, Nevada area and enjoyed involvement in state politics. He was an avid tennis player and a charter member of the Riviera Tennis Club in Pacific Palisades, California. Paul enjoyed an active social life and was always considered the "life of the party" for his great intellect and wit and was always ready to engage in lively political discussions. Paul was preceded in death by his parents, sisters and brother. He was also predeceased by his first wife Irene Janneck and his second wife Barbara Stanley. He is survived by his daughter Margot (Mark) Armbruster, his stepdaughter Maureen Miller and her children Taylor, Kelsey and Kailyn, his stepdaughter Kerry Monroe, his niece Barbara (Dale) Greenlee and her daughters Andria and Kariann, and his nephew Robert Sutton.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, November 9, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at Mountain View Cemetery in Altadena with interment to follow. He will be greatly missed by his family and many lifelong friends for his terrific sense of humor and his great zest for life!
