Passed away on January 17, 2013 at the age of 95.
A native of Seattle, Washington, Jack was born on July 1, 1917. Jack enlisted in the Army
Air Force during World War II
and served in China, and then made his home in Los Angeles after the war.
Jack married the love of his life, Katherine (Kaye) Hasson in 1947, and inherited the entire Hasson family to add to his own loving and extended Israel family.
Jack owned the Industrial Leathers and Resource One agencies, which served the shoe, handbag, accessories and garment markets throughout Southern California. Jack was extremely proud that his daughter had joined him in the business after graduation from UCLA
A proud member of the Sephardic Community, Jack was President of the Sephardic Hebrew Center, and was honored as its Man of the Year in 1985. He was a leader and involved in programming in numerous organizations and causes. He was well known as the editor of the newspapers of the Sephardic Hebrew Center, LASHA (the Los Angeles Jewish Home for the Aging), HaMerkaz (the Sephardic Educational Center), and the El Shofar (at Sephardic Temple Tifereth Israel in Westwood). Jack also did numerous programs and projects for the Alliance Israelite Universelle and Maimonides Academy in Los Angeles.
A graduate of the University of Washington
, Jack, an avid lifelong learner, has spent the last many years studying at Shomrei Torah Synagogue in West Hills and at the Melton School. He was also for many years the editor of The Shofar at Shomrei Torah Synagogue, helping to move it to an online publication in recent years.
Jack is survived by his wife of 65 years, Kaye, daughter Marcia and son-in-law Robert Weingarten, grandsons Jason and David, a myriad of nieces and nephews and great and great-great nieces and nephews, as well as a multitude of friends and extended family.
Jack was one-of-a-kind and will truly be missed.
