Joe Meyer Shapiro

Longtime West Los Angeles resident Joe Meyer Shapiro passed away peacefully in Santa Monica on Saturday August 31st. He lived 97 wonderful years.

Born in St. Louis Missouri, Joe moved to Los Angeles as a young child where he has always lived. He enjoyed 60 years of a loving marriage and is the proud father of five children and three grandchildren.

Joe was husband of the late Adelle Heimberg Shapiro, and grandfather of the late Paul Shapiro. He is survived by Andy Shapiro, Tom and his wife Ruth Birnberg, Mark and his wife Carolyn, Eileen and her husband Dennis Hough, Cheryl and her husband Barry Sirkus, & three grandchildren Jennifer Sirkus, Izak Shapiro and Jacob Shapiro.

Joe attended UCLA and served in WWII. He was an entrepreneur. As a young man he owned a shoe manufacturing business. He later invested in the citrus industry and developed real estate.

Joe lived life large. On any given day you might find him painting a landscape, racing down the ski slopes, crushing grapes for his favorite beverage, enjoying an evening at the theater, or packing his bags for his latest travel adventure.

He shared his later years in a loving relationship with his lady friend, Ann Freeman.

Everyone loved Joe's passion for life!
