January 15, 1926 - February 18, 2014 Born in Pgh.,PA. to Esther and Nathan Levy. They moved to LA in 1941 where Mark graduated LA High. He proudly served in the Army
as a lieutenant during WWII
as a tank commander in the 4th armored Div. under Gen. Patton and then in military intelligence. He entered UCLA
where he met the love of his life, Peachy. In 1949 Peachy and Mark married and Mark began a successful career as a builder/developer in S. Cal. area. In 1950 they had their 1st child and Mark was recalled to the Army during the Korean War
. Returning home, Mark re-entered the building business and they had 2 more children. Mark's involvement in the Jewish community began in Federation and their synagogue. He became involved in Reform movement, serving as officer on URJ Natl. Bd. Mark was a loving, caring, generous, smart man whose leadership ability led to his becoming president of Leo Baeck Temple, Los Angeles Hillel Council and Mazon, a Jewish Response to Hunger. Mark and Peachy established a URJ Youth scholarship fund for Camp Newman and NFTY, are founders of URJ Camp Kalsman, enabled creation of Kalsman Institute for Judaism and Health at HUC-JIR LA, and chaired Project Americana at Skirball Cultural Center. Mark was a lifelong baseball fan, UCLA Bruin fan and an avid reader. Mark died from a fall resulting in a brain injury. During a period of 5 1/2 months Mark was surrounded by loving family and friends. Mark and Peachy were married for 65 beautiful years. He is survived by adoring wife, Peachy, loving children, Richard (Dana), Jani (Bill), John (Victoria) and grandchildren, Alexandra, Jacob, Kate (Evan), Jeremy, Nathaniel and Abigail. Funeral services will be at Leo Baeck Temple on Friday, February 21st at 10:00 am followed by burial at Hillside cemetery.
