Melkon Stephan Agopian

Loving father, brother, uncle, and husband,died June 16, 2014, in San Marino, California. The youngest of six siblings, Melkon is preceded in death by his sisters, Irene, Alice, Nazli, and Takoui, as well as his brother, Agop. Melkon is survived by his wife, Sadie, and his son, Sean. Born March 8, 1936 in Alexandria, Egypt, Melkon had a keen passion for academics. After receiving his Bachelor of Science in chemistry from American University in Cairo, he emigrated to the United States in 1967, where he obtained a Masters of Science from California State University, Dominguez Hills. He and Sadie married on September 20, 1975 and shared nearly 40 years as husband and wife. With both degrees, he worked as a hospital chemist for over a decade, and then for Specialty Labs, Inc., where he was appointed Vice President of Operations until he retired in 1999. The lab was ultimately acquired by Quest Diagnostics. Affectionately referred to as "The Chief," he was the resident patriarch and beloved uncle to countless nieces and nephews. While an avid sailor and outdoorsman, Melkon, who enjoyed his morning espressos and his mulukhiyah soup, will be remembered most for his extraordinary work ethic and deep love for Sean. Viewing this Sunday, June 22, from 7-8:30PM at Cabot and Sons Funeral Home, 27 Chestnut Street, Pasadena, CA 91103. Funeral services also at Cabot and Sons Monday, June 23, at 11AM.
