Paula Freda (Bernstein) DALLINGER

DALLINGER, Paula Freda (Bernstein) Paula Dallinger, beloved wife of Herbert Dallinger (d. 1978) and mother of Jane Ellen Bleeg and Deborah Dallinger, passed away peacefully in her West Los Angeles home on September 7, 2013 following a long illness. Born on July 8, 1921 in Marquette, Michigan, Paula lived in Los Angeles since childhood. She graduated from Fairfax High School, and studied child psychology at UCLA until she met and married Herbert, the love of her life. Paula was the quintessential stay-at-home mom, gardening, sewing, cooking, devoting herself to her family. Following Herbert's death in 1978, she worked at the Beverly Hills Courier for ten years, and enjoyed a loving relationship with John Whitehead for 27 years until his death in 2012. Paula cared deeply about civil rights and progressive politics, volunteering for the ACLU, Another Mother for Peace, Rosewood Elementary School's PTA and other organizations. She nurtured a large circle of friends throughout her life, and made her home a vibrant gathering place. She leaves a legacy of deep commitment to family and friends, and a knack for infectious humor. In her honor, gifts can be made to City of Hope or the ACLU. A graveside funeral service will be held at Hillside Memorial Park, 6001 W. Centinela Avenue, on Thursday, September 12 at 11a.m.
