Widower of Lucille Bohn Hayes & Evelyn Kaminer Hayes, he is survived by his son, Michael Hayes of Key West, grandchildren Elizabeth Croteau & Sarah Hayes, brother Stanley Hayes of New Mexico, & stepchildren Brent & Craig Bohn, & Jeri Grim. He was also predeceased by his brother, the writer Alfred Hayes. He began writing for radio in New York in the 1940s & moved to television, writing episodes of Fireside Theater & US Steel Hour among other early classics. He moved west as a contract writer for Columbia Pictures, working both in television & film. He received an academy award nomination for his original screenplay of "One Potato, Two Potato" in 1964.
