Marjorie Wollman Obituary

Marjorie "Margie" Reck Wollman (born Marjorie Rebecca Reck) of Los Angeles, California died on February 12th at the age of 76. Her death was a result of a respiratory infection related to complications from pancreatic cancer. Margie was born to Alma Kehoe Reck and Warren Dart Reck in Denver, Colorado, July 19, 1938. She attended the University of Colorado at Boulder where she graduated with honors in History, becoming a member of Phi Beta Kappa in her junior year. She was also a very proud member of the Phi chapter of the Delta Gamma sorority at CU. In 1960, Margie moved with two DG friends to San Francisco where she worked in the newsroom at KPIX, the CBS affiliate. She was known as the "best of the newsroom broads." As she used to say, "there were 37 guys and me." In 1965 she moved to L.A. to work on a rock and roll show for KABC called Shivaree. She then entered the wacky world of game shows by working as a production assistant (and eventual stage manager and sometimes associate director) on multiple Chuck Barris television shows, including The Newlywed Game, The Gong Show and The Dating Game. In 1973, Margie met the love of her life and husband of 41 plus fun-filled years, Don Wollman. Don and Margie grew their family as big as it would get in March of 1977 with the birth of their only child, their son Sam. Margie spent the rest of her life being an incredible wife and mother to the two luckiest guys on the planet (outrageous claim not verified, but likely true). Margie's kind and giving nature was unparallelled. Her joyous spirit, sharp wit and infectious energy made her a pleasure to be around, leaving an indelible mark on all those she encountered, whether the stranger in line at the grocery store or her loving friends and family. Margie is survived by her husband Don and her son Sam, who will miss her dearly. Services will be at Woodlawn Mortuary in Santa Monica on February 21, 2015. Donations can be made in Margie's name to the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center via the following: http://mskcc.convio.net/goto/margiewollman.

Don and Sam, I'm so sorry to just find out about your loss, years later, after a coincidence re directed me back to you. Marjorie and Don Wollman treated me like a family member from the minute we met, as long as I've known them; 50+ years. I was just a struggling musician, and they let me into their lives, supporting my efforts all the way. Sam, you were just knee high to a grasshopper when I was around. I remember all the days at your Hollywood hills home, as second home it was for me. I'll never forget how light and funny she always seemed to be. Great memories I'll cherish forever.

Dear Don and Sam,

The last time that I saw Marjie at Gelson's, she had the same big smile and twinkle in her eye that I first saw when I met her at Magic Years when Sam and Stephanie were classmates. That's how I'll aways remember her.

I'm so sorry for your loss.

Reading the bio of Marjorie's life is beautiful and inspiring. And Marjorie's photo is a great representation everything written in text. Her husband Don is a great leader at work and his Big Brother family will continue to watch over him. xoxo

Don and Sam,
I can see you both sitting on the 8th floor waiting for your darling to have her surgery, and then into recovery..where I saw a beautiful, kind face... I so send you both kind wishes and know in the short time we met,I got "that love" that you both so
felt for this wonderful wife and mommy.. I think of you all each Monday at Cedars, and pray for your comfort and love that flows through you..to know that she will always be the lovely lady that you love watching over her two favorite gentle souls...

Dear Don:

Peggy (Siggia) Poe sent me the obituary of the passing of your lovely wife. I'm so sad for you.

Peggy and I talk often and have been best friends for 68 years. We have often spoken of you with fondness.

I hope that your grief will soon be taken over by what surely have been many joyous and fond memories of your wife.

Warmest Regards,

Holly (Schuetz) Flor
