Lawrence Gilbert Body, born November 15, 1925 in Fall River, Massachusetts, passed away November 25, 2010 at the age of 85 due to complications from Leukemia. He was a loving husband, much-loved father and caring friend to many others.
Larry served as an officer of the US Navy for 22 years, retiring with the rank of Lieutenant Commander after deploying first as a surface warfare officer and later as a naval aviator.
Following his retirement from the Navy, Larry, who held Bachelors degrees from both MIT and the US Naval Post Graduate School, joined the aerospace industry. He worked for more than 30 years on numerous programs, including the Space Shuttle and the B-2 bomber.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years and the love of his life, Virginia Nielsen Body; his son, Lawrence Blair Body; a daughter Barbara Jean Nash and her husband William Nash; two grandchildren Kristen and Joshua; and three great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, December 4th at 2:00 PM at the Fairhaven Chapel, Fairhaven Memorial Park & Mortuary, at 1702 Fairhaven Avenue in Santa Ana. The internment will occur Monday, December 6th at 9:45 AM at the Riverside National Cemetery in Riverside, California with full military honors.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers a donation be made to the American Red Cross in his name so that others may receive the gift of life, and to honor this wonderful husband, father and friend.
