William Yetter Obituary

May 1926 - January 2018 William Phillips Yetter, a resident of La Habra Heights California for more than sixty years, passed away at home in January. Bill was born in Grand Junction Colorado to William P. Yetter and Elizabeth Moulton Yetter. Three days after graduation from Moorestown High School in New Jersey, Bill entered the U.S. Navy. He was sent to Naval Station Great Lakes and the University of Houston for training as a Radio Technician. During World War II he served on the U.S.S. Navasota, an oil tanker in the Atlantic Fleet. Honorably discharged two years later, he entered Cornell University, earning a degree in Electrical Engineering and a Masters degree from Yale. During his junior year at Cornell Bill married Margaret Jeanne Brenner with whom he had five children. Jeanne Yetter predeceased Bill in 1997. He is survived by Lisa Yetter and spouse John Altintop, Laura Downie (Scott), Margaret Furbank (Chris), Linda Brothers (Mike), Paul Yetter (Kathleen), and eight grandchildren: Will, Allison, Robert and Kelly Yetter, Jonathan and Eric Downie amd Zachary and Nick Brothers. He is also survived by several cousins, a niece and a nephew, and Rose Mary Kimble Yetter whom he married in 2003. During his career as an aerospace engineer he worked for the Autonetics Division of Rockwell International, and North American Aviation. Post retirement he became an investment consultant with IDM in Long Beach Bill was active in the community, participating in several organizations: Whittier Historical Society, Friends of the Shannon Center, Cornell Alumni Club, Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity, Whittier Art Association, Los Compadres Club and Hillcrest Congregational Church. Graveside services for family only will take place on Saturday March 31 at Rose Hills Memorial Park, Whittier, California. At 12:00 noon, there will be an open memorial service at Hillcrest Congregational Church, 2000 West Road, La Habra Heights, California 90631, followed by a reception in Barwick Hall on the Hillcrest campus. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to PIH Health Hospice, 15050 Imperial Highway, La Mirada, California 90638, the ASPCA (800) 628-0028, or a charity of your choice.
