Carol Rebecca Green was born in Cleveland, Ohio to Leo and Mildred Gutentag. Her brother, Dr. James Gutentag, pre-deceased her. Educated at the University of Michigan, Michigan State University, and Case Western Reserve, Carol obtained her Master of Science degree in education and was one of the few people certified by the state of Ohio in teaching reading to all grade level students from kindergarten through twelfth grade.
Coming to Los Angeles in 1959 while her husband, Harry, pursued his medical education, Carol was a founding member and lifelong secretary and supporter of the Friends of the Sheba Medical Center at Tel Hashomer, Israel. She was an active member of Sinai Temple, on its Board of Directors, its Board of Governors, an active member of its Education Committee and its House and Grounds Committee, a lifelong member of its Sisterhood, and a president of its Mr. and Mrs. Club. She was a cultured, intelligent woman who enjoyed family, friends, music, travel and theater.
Besides her husband, and just two weeks short of sixty years of marriage, Carol leaves two daughters: Cynthia (Paul Anderson) and Deborah (Reuben Zahler) and four grandchildren: Shira, Jonathan and Daniel Anderson and Joshua Zahler.
