Catherine Older Obituary

October 21, 1919 - October 25, 2013 Catherine Day Older was born on October 21, 1919 in Los Angeles, CA to Dorothy and Loring Day. She was a third generation Californian. Catherine was raised in Beverly Hills, CA and graduated from Beverly Hills High School. Catherine went on to attend the University of Southern California, where she was a member of the Pi Beta Phi sorority. In high school, Catherine met her future husband, Charles Herman Older. Catherine and Charles became engaged shortly before Charles left to serve in China as Flying Tiger prior to World War II. They married on August 9, 1942 in Beverly Hills, CA. Catherine and Charles lived in Los Angeles, where they raised their three daughters. Catherine was an avid golfer and an active member of the Los Angeles Country Club ("LACC") for over 45 years. She was elected president of the LACC Women's Auxiliary Group. One of her crowning golf achievements was her "hole-in-one" at the LACC golf course. Catherine was also the founding member of the Cultural Group, where she and its members promoted the local cultural scene by attending plays, concerts and museum exhibits throughout the Los Angeles area. Catherine was best known for merging her passion of cooking and entertaining, with her love of her family. She was always spearheading and organizing family reunions, both near and far away, to ensure her family stayed connected. Catherine also had a great interest in interior design. Catherine was a twin to the late Lorraine Day Cooke of Honolulu, HI, and sister to the late Elenora Day Morrett of Columbus, Ohio. Catherine is survived by her three daughters, Victoria Older Currie of La Jolla, CA, Catherine Older Lapat of Kissimmee, FL, Nancy Wood Yarbrough of Las Vegas, NV, her five grandchildren, and one great grandchild. Memorial contributions in her honor may be made to Hospice. A private memorial ceremony will be held with the immediate family members.
