Fern Ebey Obituary

Ebey, Fern Parker Nov. 16, 1908 - Jan. 26, 2002
Fern Ebey was born in Arkansas, one of the five children of Rosa and James Parker. She met Frank Ward Ebey when teaching school in Prescott, Arizona. They were married in July, 1933 in Cochise Country Arizona. At that time Frank Ebey was an army officer stationed at Fort Huachuca, Arizona. He was a graduate of West Point, class of 1932. Fern and Frank Ebey were stationed in the Philippines and Hawaii after 1935. Fern traveled extensively with her sister Audrey Ross during this period visiting Japan, China and Bali. The Ebeys had one son, John Ebey, who was born in 1940. Fern and her son left Hawaii before the attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941 and lived in Los Angeles through the War years. Although wounded at Pearl Harbor, Captain Frank Ebey was credited with the shooting down of the first Japanese airplane of the War. The Ebeys moved to their home on Aderno Way in the Pacific Palisades in May, 1964. Frank Ebey died February 1970 at the age of 62. Fern lived on Aderno Way for 38 years until her death on January 26th. For many years Fern Ebey was an active member of the Pacific Palisades Garden Club and Pacific Palisades Women's Club. She was an excellent golfer and was a member of the Riviera Country Club. On Aderno Way she was loved by a wonderful community of friends and neighbors whom she loved dearly in return. Fern Ebey will be buried at the United States Military Academy at West Point on February 6th, 2002. On February 15th at 4:30 in the afternoon there will be a memorial service for Fern at Saint Matthews Episcopal Church in the Pacific Palisades. Fern is survived by her sister Audrey Ross; her son John and her daughter-in-law Susan.
