Gloria May Obituary

Passed Away On October 18, 2013 Gloria May, the daughter of David May 11 and Ann Rutherford, died Friday, October 18 in her home in San Francisco. Born in Los Angeles and raised in Beverly Hills, Gloria attended Westlake School (now known as Harvard-Westlake) and earned both a Bachelors Degree in Psychology and a Masters Degree in Health Education from San Francisco State University. In addition, Gloria was also a licensed RN and was a Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) and held a TESL (Teacher of English as a Second Language) certification. Since 1995, Gloria has been a featured columnist writing monthly senior health columns for publications in California, Washington, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Nevada, Wisconsin, Ohio and Indiana. Gloria was also known for her teaching and speaking engagements that focused on helping ethnically diverse English learners in the health care setting. Through her teaching and her nursing, Gloria spent her life in the service of others. Driven by her interest in diversity and the exploration of other cultures, she was an extensive world traveler who found a learning experience in every adventure. Gloria had a legendary sense of humor and a tremendous zest for life. She loved her work, her friends and family and, of course, her cherished pets. Gloria is survived by her two sons, Tom and David Voeller and her six half sisters, Anita, Kathy, Amanda, Alysia, Dalynn and Tommee. In keeping with her wishes, there will be no funeral services. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to: Avenues Pet Hospital 2221 Taraval Street San Francisco, CA 94116 415-681-4313 http://www.avenuespethospital.com

To her sons: I enjoyed knowing Gloria here in Carmel for the past ten years or so. If I can be of service to you in any way, please let me know. It seem so strange that you have lost her so soon after the passing of your grandmother. I am so sorry, it must be very difficult for you. Carol Ryan, Monterey
