Joel David Pressman

April 17, 1950 - November 18, 2013 Born April 17, 1950 in Los Angeles, California to Marjorie and Rabbi Jacob Pressman, Joel attended Beverly Vista School and Beverly Hills High School. He attended USC and also received his masters in choral music at USC. Throughout his school years he performed in shows at schools and in local synagogues and churches. After graduation he performed in many venues, both in choirs and as a soloist, including on Broadway. He went on to teach choral music and performing arts at Beverly Hills High School, and for many years was chairman of the Performing Arts Department. He retired in June 2013. He also spent many summers at ISOMATA (Idyllwild School of Music and the Arts), in Idyllwild, California, first as a student and then as a teacher. For several months he has been suffering with cancer and has been given loving care by his children, daughter Aviva and son Elijah, as well as his sister, Judy and brother Daniel. He was beloved not only by his parents, siblings, children and many friends, but also by his students of the past 38 years. He will be greatly missed. Joel was 63 at the time of his death. Services will be private. There will be a public memorial at a time to be announced. Donations in his name may be made to Idyllwild Arts or the American Cancer Society.
