Richard Bradford Obituary

November 10, 1934 - March 22, 2016 Richard Bradford, actor who starred in British television series "Man in a Suitcase," dies at 82. Richard Bradford was born in Conroe, Texas and attended Peacock Military Academy and then Texas A & M on a football scholarship. After injuring himself, he transferred to University of Texas to play baseball. When the pro-ball team he played for folded, he, on a whim, auditioned for "Picnic" and won the lead role. From there, his life was determined. In 1962, he joined the Actor's Studio in New York and acted in his first movie, "The Chase" (1966) with Marlon Brando. From 1967 - 1968, Richard Bradford starred in the British television series, "Man in a Suitcase," a show still aired on British television today. Upon moving to Los Angeles, Richard had a long and critically acclaimed career, playing in over 80 movies and television shows, amongst them "Looking to Get Out" (1982), "Trip to Bountiful" (1985), "Untouchables" (1987), "Little Nikita" (1988), "Milagro Beanfield War" (1988), "Internal Affairs" (1990), "Just the Ticket" (1999), and "Lost City" (2005). Many may remember his scene stealing moment as the Irish cop arguing in an alley with Sean Connory in "Untouchables." Richard cared about the craft to the very depth of his being. He was a source of comfort and love, and friends were always welcomed to his home with barbecued ribs, corn bread, and black-eyed peas. He is survived by his son Richard Bradford III, his longtime partner Millie Perkins, his step-daughters Hedy Hutcheson and Lillie Thom, and four grandchildren.

Never forgotten - still remembered as one of the kindest of gentlemen and most unassuming of actors. For so many you will be forever McGill in Man in a Suitcase, but I'm honoured to also recall you as a much missed friend. God bless you Richard.

Richard loved your work, especially MIAS your devotion to acting was brillant, so much work on your behalf went into this acclaimed ITC series. It's a credit to your ability as an actor and outshones over ITC series of this period. Love your films as well, why oh why were you not allowed or put forward for directing some of MIAS you would have been absolutely brillant...

An understated actor I thought. He was very talented and very handsome. He had charisma for sure. His partner Millie Perkins (Diary of Anne Frank) who is in her 80s now is also a very talented actress she had starring parts but should have had far more.

My mother was the wardrobe mistress for ‘Man in a Suitcase”. I lived on that set each week during off days from school. Loved Richard. He would stand on the set eat an apple and
pretend to throw it my way. Signed a nice picture of himself for me too. Theme song of series was great. They should show this series in South Africa where I now reside with my family.
Rest In Peace Richard.

Dear Richard has passed away, what a tragic passing a first class brilliant actor MIASC was a real hit with Richard wanting to add so much authentic action in this unique series a very underrated actor who deserved to be far better known. I am a fan of the Saint with Roger Moore which is my favourite television series, but when l saw MIASC l was blown away by the realistic action which is down to Richard. Would it not be great to introduce a new series of MIASC perhaps an update with Richard directing and addressing the production values how brilliant that could have been sadly it was not to be

I only heard of Richard's death a week ago. Ive been a life long fan watched miasc when l was a young teenager in Manchester UK. I was completely blown away by his charismatic and cool style of acting and he became my favourite actor, but he was ellusive and enigmatic and his appearances on film or tv were it seemed far and few between for this great actor. With the onset of the internet it was still almost impossible to get the merest snippets of info about him . However l did write to him hoping my letter would reach him unfortunately the USmail sent it back to me, l have never apart from family wrote a letter to anyone but felt moved to write to Richard just to say how much l appreciated his work and him as a person. I woud check the internet quite regularly to make sure he was ok and hadn't appeared in a film, but been off line for a couple of years and so sad to be greeted by this news.
RIP Richard you will be missed and were for me the top man.

Only heard a few days ago about Richard Bradford 's death really sad news especially for me over a year later.
He was my favourite actor and we should have seen a lot more of him for sure. I did write to him around 12 years ago but sadly my letter never reached him, first and only time l have ever wrote a letter to anyone other than family would have been great to get a reply. I always sensed he would be a nice fella as well as a cool fantastic actor.
RIP Richard.

Only just found out about the sad death of Richard Bradford, can't understand why l didn't hear it on last years Oscar's. I have been a fan of this great criminally neglected actor all my life, should have been up there with Brando but he wasn't the creepy Hollywood type to his credit non the less what a shame he never reached the heights he so surely deserved...RIP Richard.
