Audrey Kahane Obituary

April 24, 1923 - October 9, 2014 Dr. Audrey Kahane was born in New York on April 24, 1923. She died here in Los Angeles on October 9, 2014. And into those 91 years, she packed a lot of life¿ and a lot of love. Audrey was the eldest of three daughters (Lucy and Margie) born to Edward and Byrdie Phillips. She grew up in a loving household in Brooklyn. She studied at NYU for her undergraduate degree, then went on to get her Masters of Social Work from Tulane University, and then finally she earned her doctorate from College Without Walls. As a social worker, adoption became one of Audrey's primary areas of focus. She worked for the L.A. County Department of Adoptions for 25 years. Afterwards, she continued in the field, working in her private practice. But there was more to Audrey than work. There was, of course, her family. Her beloved Harold, her husband. Audrey and Harold were married in 1946, and started their family a few years later. And they remained married, and in love, for the next 53 years. She is survived by her sisters, Lucy and Margie, her children, William Kahane (Elizabeth), Sue Kahane Ogulnick (Ron), Robert Kahane, and Peter Kahane (Rebecca), and her grandchildren, Joshua, Ashley, Jake, Rachel, Megan, Lily, Zachary, Zoe, and Harry. Audrey was an incredibly intelligent woman who looked for the good in all people. She is irreplaceable and will be greatly missed.

I Loved my Aunt Audrey!

Audrey was an amazing woman who shared her humor and energy for life generously with others who needed her. I was fortunate to be her friend and was mentored by her as a younger social worker. She will be greatly missed and long remembered. My thoughts are with her family at this time.
