Alfs, Barbara Smith March 21, 1924 - March 4, 2012 Barbara Smith Alfs died on March 4th with family by her side in Santa Monica, California. She was born in Long Beach, California to Curtis and Jean (Norris) Smith. She graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School and attended Long Beach City College. She worked for the U.S. Navy at the Long Beach Naval Shipyard, where she met George William Alfs. They were married in 1946 and resided in Los Angeles. She is preceded in death by her husband, George, son Robert, sister Curtyne Smith Driscoll and son-in-law Stewart Titus. Mrs. Alfs was actively involved at St. Martin of Tours Elementary School, Marymount High School and Loyola High School. Her interests included reading, gardening, bridge, travel and afternoon golf with George. She is survived by her children Christina, Bernard, Margaret (Dennis) Womble, George (Marjorie), Elizabeth Titus, Caroline (Charles) Moynagh and Katherine (Richard) Wafer, 13 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. She is also survived by her sister Virginia (Harry) Ironmonger. A funeral mass will be held at 11am on Friday, March 9th, at St. Paul the Apostle Church, 10750 Ohio Avenue, Los Angeles, California.
