Charles LEINBACH Obituary

LEINBACH, Charles (Chuck) Walter Died in his home in Blaine, Washington on January 20, 2012, surrounded by his family. Mr. Leinbach was born in 1915 in Delmar, New York, just outside Albany, to Charles Leinbach and Bertha Leinbach. He spent most of his early years living in Potlatch Idaho with his Uncle and Aunt, Walter and Myra Gamble, and his two cousins, Christine and Helen. Charles earned an A.B. degree from UCLA and a Law Degree from Harvard Law School. After Harvard Law School Mr. Leinbach served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Following the war he moved to San Francisco where he worked as a law clerk for California Supreme Court Justice the Hon. Douglas L. Edmonds, his Uncle. In 1950 Mr. Leinbach joined the Garrett Corporation as its first full-time attorney, where he ran their legal department for his entire career. He retired from the Garrett Corporation 30 years later as Vice President, General Counsel. Later in his career he also served as an arbitrator for the American Arbitration Association and as Judge Pro Tem for the Los Angeles Superior Court.
Earlier in his career at Garrett Mr. Leinbach traveled the world helping to establish global manufacturing presences. It was on one of these trips to Germany that he met Marianne, the love of his life, and his life partner. They married and settled in Santa Monica, California, where they raised three boys: Charles, Brian and Gary. Community service was a hallmark of Mr. Leinbach's life. He was a dedicated member of the First United Methodist Church of Santa Monica where he was very active in the leadership of the church, including serving as Lay Leader twice. He also served in many civic and charitable organizations including the Masons and the Shriners. He is survived by his wife Marianne; children Charles, Brian and Gary; and grandchildren Hannah, Sarah, Amanda, Alexander, Jocelyn and Vanessa. Services will be held at a later date.
