November 2, 1945 - February 10, 2014 David V. Snowden passed away at home in Redondo Beach on February 10, 2014. He was 68 years old. Dave was born on November 2,1945, the only child of Victor and Eugenia Snowden (Lonczak) of Johnston, RI. Dave graduated from Johnston High School, was an Eagle Scout and served in Vietnam with the US Army. Dave then began his employment with El Camino College in Torrance, CA and worked as a Student Service Specialist until his passing. He was the go-to guy for computer problems and was always happy to assist. As a proud veteran, Dave was a champion for veterans and co-advisor for the Veterans Club. An avid sports fan, Dave refereed many swim meets for ECC and other local groups. He worked at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics. His booming voice served him well while announcing sporting events. Dave was a man of many interests, many begun in childhood. He loved trains and all things transportation and at an early age could navigate the NYC subways. Dave was an avid roller skater; he competed in and judged hundreds of competitions, on both coasts. His size 14 skates will be given a place of honor at the Moonlight Rollerway in Glendale. Dave was proud member of the VFW Post 2828 in Redondo Beach and also worked at the YMCA teaching an enthusiastic aquatic aerobics class. He volunteered at the El Segundo Music Hall and loved organ music. His favorite day was April Fools and he brightened up a room with his signature Hawaiian shirts. He is survived by his maternal aunt, Irene Hillas, cousins John and Stephen Short of RI and Mary Doody of CT as well as numerous extended family. He will be interred with his beloved mother at St Anne's Cemetery in Cranston, Rhode Island. A memorial will be held on April 1,2014 at El Camino College 16007 Crenshaw Blvd, Torrance, CA at 12 pm. in the East Dining Room above the campus bookstore. A scholarship has been established in Dave's name to assist veterans. Contributions should be made payable to The El Camino College Foundation for the Dave Snowden Memorial Veterans Scholarships.
