Ellwood "Woody" REED

Ellwood REED Obituary

REED, Ellwood "Woody" November 4, 1926 - October 10, 2010 Our proud, fiercely loyal WWII Navy gunner mate Veteran, retired (31 years) Captain in the L.A. County Fire Department, ardent sports fan, and devoted family man and friend passed away after complications from the flu and resulting falls in Santa Maria, CA, his home for the past 21 years.
Woody is now wrapping his arms around his beloved Louise who predeceased him in 2002 and swapping old Arkansas, South Gate, Downey and Niland stories with oldest brother J.F. Reed (Phyllis), sisters Louise Stanley (Bud) and Maxine Kelly (Jack). We're sure he's got a catchers mitt on his hand. And he's standing straight...something he hasn't done since falling 60 feet fighting a brush fire 30 years ago. Rest in peace our beloved Wood. Your son, David (Kathleen), brother Ted (Debra), grandkids Thomas (Jessica), Jennifer, and Daniel and great-grandkids McKayla, Gabriella and Azurae and many nieces, nephews and friends will miss your stories, your passion for life and your always supportive presence in their lives. Memorial services are scheduled for Saturday, October 16, 2010, at 11:00 a.m. at Rose Hills Memorial Park, 3888 Workman Mill Road, Whittier, California. Donations in Woody's memory can be made to the Alisa Ruch Burn Foundation of Southern California, www.aarbf.org, 1-800-242-BURN. Arrangements are under the direction of Dudley-Hoffman Mortuary, Crematory and Memory Gardens.

We enjoyed visiting with Woody when he took walks down Ivory drive. We were fortunate to have him as a neighbor.
May God grant him eternal rest.

We are all saddened by Woody's passing, but know he is on the other side still protecting all of us- always watching over us. Woody was a great man and a kind person. We were blessed to have him as a resident at Santa Maria Terrace for the last 3 1/2 years. God bless you Woody.
