Fred J. Weston

WESTON, Fred J. Passed away July 20, 2009 at the age of 93. Beloved husband, father and teacher, renowned for his path-breaking research on mergers and acquisitions, Fred leaves an indelible mark on all he touched. After earning his AB '37, his MBA '43, and his PhD '48, from the University of Chicago and serving in the US Army, in 1949 he joined the faculty of what is today UCLA Anderson School of Management where his pioneering research contributed to the development of finance as a subfield of economics. After retirement, he continued to teach and mentor UCLA Anderson students and was a generous benefactor of the school. A prolific author and researcher, Fred will be remembered for his exceptional contributions to business economics, and for his gentle soul. He was preceded in death by wife Bernadine and is survived by his sons Byron and Kenneth, and daughter Ellen. A memorial service will be held at UCLA Anderson on Aug. 12, 2009 at noon in Gold Hall, B209, 310-206-9816.
