September 2, 1924 - January 27, 2013
Gladys Tyler White passed away peacefully after a long illness Sunday night, January 27 at 11:45 pm. She was born Gladys Irene Tyler in rural Hanover County, Virginia on Sept. 2, 1924, the last and thirteenth child of Asa Atwood Tyler and Mary Ellen Reed. She is survived by her two children: Catherine Ann Moore and Stephen Craig Byrns; three grandchildren: Paul Tyler Byrns, Dawn Michelle Moore, Dana Marlene Hancock; three great grandchildren: Brittany Nichole Long, Meriah Richelle Long, Erica Danielle Hancock; and one great, great grandchild: Mason Daniel Madea. Fiercely independent, she lived life on her own terms. While dancing remained her lifelong passion, Gladys worked as an inspector in the aero-space industry, working successively for Lockheed, Hughes, North American Aviation, Rockwell, and McDonnell Douglas. She was immensely proud of her work on the Apollo and Space Shuttle programs. Her retirement allowed her the time to travel throughout Europe and the US.
Funeral services will be held at Westminster Memorial Park on Sunday Feb. 3 at 12:00. Viewing will be from 10 -12, with services at noon. Gladys will be interred in the family plot in Virginia.
