Jack Kenaston Obituary

Kenaston, Jack(88) of Carmel Highlands, CA and former long-time resident of Glendale, CA, died Sunday, March 10, 2002, at his home. At his request, the Neptune Society will scatter his ashes at sea. There will be no services.
Mr. Kenaston was born on October 27, 1913 in Kansas City, MO. Graduated 1936 from University of Wisconsin, majoring in Art. Married Betty Sexton of Santa Barbara, CA in 1938, and began his 41 years living and working in Southern California. In 1943, he received his commission in the Naval Reserve; serving on Destroyer Terry as a Torpedo Officer during WWII. In 1946, he began a long and successful career in Television. He worked at KTTV and was employed by NBC for 30 years. He wrote, directed and produced ``The Unk and Andy Show"; received three Emmy's for specials aired on KNBC and as Program Director was responsible for all programming. He started up the Los Angeles School system's Educational station, KLCS 58. Widowed in 1976, he married Polly Buzza Lawton of Carmel, CA in 1977. They resided in the Highlands from 1979 until his death. Mr. Kenaston was very active in the Carmel community, serving in many ways for a variety of organizations. He was a lover of Jazz, travel and life. Mr. Kenaston is survived by his son, Court, and daughter, Constance Kenaston Stewart. Two grandchildren, Matt and Betsy Kenaston. A step-son, John Lawton and step-daughter, Gigi Lawton Halliwell and two step-grandchildren, Jillian and Ian Halliwell. Donations may be made in his name to the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences.
