James FLORA Obituary

FLORA, James Arlis Feb. 13, 1913-Nov. 6, 2010 A dearly loved man passed away peacefully last Saturday morning with his dog Barney and son David at his side. He was the father of five, grandfather of 12, great-grandfather of nine, and great-great-grandfather of one. The son of James Franklin Flora and Lydia Flora (nee Heaston), he was born in La Junta, Colorado. He lived in a sod house on the plains the first five years of his life. He grew up on farms on the plains of Colorado and moved to Modesto, California, when he was 20. He married Edwina Pearl Isley in 1937. She was 19. They were together until she passed away in 1984. Jim (also known as Arlis by his family) worked in the Long Beach/Los Angeles shipyards during World War II. After the war he built airplanes at Douglas Aircraft/McDonnell Douglas until he retired in 1973. He raised mink and orchids during the 1950s and 60s and invested in real estate until just a few years ago. Jim loved his country and was absolutely devoted to his family as they were to him. He was a wonderful father and role model and was a devoted friend. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, November 12 at Advantage Funeral & Cremation Services, 627 Main Street, Huntington Beach, California 92648, 714-536-6539.
