James KING Obituary

KING, James Montgomery Died of pneumonia and complications in Fullerton, California on November 24, 2010, at the age of 89. He was born in Macon, Missouri, to Damon and Jessie King and had one sister, Carolyn King Holly, all of whom preceded him in death. Jim attended Westminster College, Fulton, Missouri, graduated from the University of Missouri and was a member of Kappa Sigma Fraternity. During World War II, he served with the Navy in the Pacific aboard Destroyer Escort as Supply and Dispersing Officer and remained in the Naval Reserve for the next thirty years when he retired with the rank of Commander. Jim worked in sales for Phillips Petroleum and National Cash Register Company before joining the Bureau of National Affairs Inc. (BNA) in Washington, D.C. He retired as Sales Manager of the Western Region in 1984.
In 1947, Jim was married to Elizabeth (Apple) Applegate and in October they had celebrated 63 wonderful years together. Surviving are their four children: Jonathan and wife Valerie of Buellton, CA; Sara and husband Mark of Elk Grove, CA; Nancy King of Long Beach and Bill King of Fullerton; two grandchildren Nick and Evangeline Freathy and great-grandson Owen, and Emily and Matt Dimataris of Sacramento. He is also survived by three nephews: Timothy, Brian, and Guy Holly and their families. Jim will be remembered for his love and devotion to his family and friends, his outgoing kindness and consideration for others and his ever-present sense of humor. A memorial service will be held at the First Presbyterian Church, 838 North Euclid in Fullerton, CA on Saturday, January 15, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, remembrances to Jim may be made to the First Presbyterian Church or the Critical Care Unit at St. Jude Hospital, Fullerton. Truly a great man with a great family. I went to school with Nancy and Bill and found the King family to be some of the very best people I have every met. He will be missed by many and my heart goes out to all of the KIng family. The world lost on very wonderful man.
