ARRIOLA, Juan A. September 13, 1926- June 26, 2011 Juan Arriola, 84, passed away with his children by his side at Eisenhower Hospital in Palm Desert, California. Born, September 13, 1926, in Los Angeles, Juan was a single child of Guillermo and Lillian Arriola. Juan is survived by his three children, Mary (Bennett) Levinson, John (Vicki) Arriola, and Martha Arriola and his four grandchildren, Zach, Ryan, Katy, and McKenna. Juan enlisted in the Navy in 1944 where he completed boot camp training in San Diego and then was trained in attack transports. Juan was assigned to the South Pacific. Juan graduated from USC in 1950 with a bachelor's degree in education. In 1971 he earned a doctorate degree from BYU. Juan began his career as an educator with the LAUSD in 1950. He served as a classroom teacher, a teacher trainer, vice principal, principal, supervisor of the Educable Mentally Retarded Program, coordinator of children's centers, and deputy area administrator. Juan retired from the LAUSD in 1984.

One of Juan greatest pleasures was being a volunteer and Docent at The Living Desert in Palm Desert, CA. He especially enjoyed feeding the giraffes on Tuesdays and enjoyed leading the tours for the visitors. A private service will be held by Juan's family members at a later date.
