Juri Bunetta Obituary
November 22, 1991 - January 9, 2011
Juri Bunetta, beloved son of Al and Dawn Bunetta, passed away early Sunday morning, January 9th, 2011 at Vanderbilt Hospital in Nashville, Tennessee due to injuries sustained during a car accident late Saturday night.
He was born November 22, 1991 in Riga, Latvia. Juri was a senior at Station Camp High School where he ran cross-country. He worked at Indian Lake Regal Cinema in Hendersonville, Tennessee and Fairvue Golf Course in Gallatin, Tennessee. He was an avid golfer and auto enthusiast. Those close to Juri described him as a generous and giving friend who always invigorated the room and made those around him smile. He was deeply loved by his family.
Juri is survived by his parents; grandmother Janet Blair; 3 aunts, Jill O'Halloran, Connie & Tracy Bunetta; 2 uncles, Glen Fritzsche and Peter Bunetta; and 8 cousins, Jessica, Kelly, Amy, & Janie O'Halloran, Allison Fritzsche, Karen McWhorter, and Julian & Damon Bunetta.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, January 14th, 2011, 3pm at Rehoboth United Methodist Church (2601 Cage's Bend Rd, Gallatin, TN 37066) with Pastor Mike Potts officiating. Flowers are welcome and appreciated at the church. The family asks that donations be made in Juri's name online at www.swa.net or by mail to Small World Adoption Programs (PO Box 1109, Mt Juliet, TN 37121).

Dawn, it is hard to believe it has been 12 years since Juri´s passing. So much has changed in these passing years and yet you remained strong and hopeful for a happy fulfilled life. Al and Dawn,
There are no answers when someone we love leaves this world. It is especially incomprehensible when they are young. We are left to remember the beauty God visited upon us while they were here. I guess in God's eyes his stay here was done. I didn't know Juri personally, but you spoke of him often. I join you mourning Juri who obviously was a gift to everyone who knew him. I am praying for him and the two of you, that you may somehow find peace, and know that you made his short stay here pleasurable and rewarding.

Very sad to learn of Juri's passing. I am a former teacher at SCHS. I didn't have Juri but I did see him laugh and make others laugh everyday in the cafeteria. He had an infectious smile. My prayers go out to his family.

Dear Dawn & Al, I used to look forward to coming to see you at the farm and thinking, "oh great, I will get to play with Juri and mess around!" I remember making whip cream decorations on his face with you Dawn and being so envious of you getting to have him as a son and best buddy. Just before leaving Atlanta for the memorial service, my sister recalled a vivid moment she had experienced with Juri that would become profoundly relevant to us at the church several hours later. Let me explain. My family was immensely fortunate to have met the newly formed Bunetta family at the beach when Juri was just 5 yrs old. For an entire week, we were privileged to witness this wide-eyed kid experience so many new things for the very first time! His keen delight & enthusiasm for life was contagious. One night, my sister offered to watch Juri and our two little girls while Dawn & Al joined us for a dinner out. Upon returning, Dawn was curious about how things had went. My sister responded excitedly that they had watched the Wizard of Oz and that Juri was utterly mesmerized. He pleaded with her several times not to turn it off before it was over.
During the service, the Pastor spoke much about Juri's big heartedness and referenced what the Wizard of Oz had told the Tin Man about his new heart.
"A heart is not judged by how much you love, but how much you are loved by others".
My family would like to share a belief that Juri too had received a new heart during that magical week at the beach and he knew exactly what he was going to do with it! We will always love you Juri.

The big boys adventure to the movies in Gallatin, Jonah and Juri, no adults, off they went without a care in the world! Jonah will always remember his buddy Juri and that day. Some great memories on the farm! We seemed to have a fun bonding experience as our favorite saying was let's all laugh at Al, Joe, Juri or Jonah! It was our way of getting the adults to laugh more! This carried over for years, it was our way of saying hello! Juri you are always going to be remembered in our everyday lives, God has a special angel.

Dawn and Al, words can't express how saddened I am to hear of your loss. I remember, Al, when Juri was adopted, and how elated you were. It's been a long time since we've seen each other, but I've always considered you a man of great integrity and heart. One of my favorite memories of Juri is when he was teaching me to drive the red go-cart around the yard. We laughed so much. When we got back inside, he made a driver's license for me. I hope I find it. It means even more to me now.

Dawn, my loving sister and a wonderful mother provided life, comfort, and unconditional love for her beloved son Juri, who was taken from her much to soon. May all the fondest memories fill our hearts and minds of Juri. Like.... playing in the snow at Grams....running the sea shore of Hampton Beach with all the girls! Eating ice cream on the wall with all the girls! (cousins from New England) Playing at the water park and running for cover when a very scary thunder and lightning storm rolled in on us. "Swimming" in the hot tub and Juri sharing his pets at Frog Hollow Farm. My wild and crazy nephew Juri driving the golf cart across the grass full speed ahead! Playing laser tag...
that was a blast! May all our special memories heal our broken hearts and allow us to smile again. Juri's light will shine forever.

It was an incredible honor to be there in the shock, sadness, hope, and appreciation this past week as we said good-bye and shared, with his tremendous family and friends, in the magnificient life celebration of Juri Bunetta and the love he selflessly gave to so many. What an awesome and generous young man. The things the kids, teachers, and principal said at the Station Camp ceremony and that we heard at the beautiful service on Friday, are the "souvenir's" that John Prine sang about, that will stay with us and in our hearts forever. Juri was a blessing and a joy to all of those who crossed his path, as are his parents. The devil stole Juri away from us way too soon and now he's up in heaven with an "illegal smile" (more Prine) on his face. We're looking forward to the day we get to see Juri again and we can ask him about his trip to Hershey!

Im truly at a loss for words other than my heart truly feels for both of you. As the father of Alison I can't even fathom the loss of a child before my time. To the friends and family of Juri: I worked with Yuri at the golf course. He was such an amazing guy. I looked forward to every time he came in because he always put a smile on my face. There was something about him that made me want to be around him. It was probably how radiant he was when he smiled and he smiles quite often! You could tell that he was extremely happy with his life. Although his life was cut short, I know for a fact that it was full of happiness.

Al & Dawn: We brought our kids home from Eastern Europe around the same time. I brought my boys out to play with Juri once when they were little. Those of us who adopted from overseas know what bright lights these kids are in our lives. I don't know why God put out Juri's light at such a young age and it makes me so so sad. I was deeply saddened when I received the news of Juri's passing. To me he was one of those rare individuals that made everyone's life a little brighter just by coming in contact with him. After all these years as a police officer, I still don't know why it seems like so many have to be taken from us so early. My deepest sympathy and prayers go to the Bunetta family for this tragedy. The Bunetta's I am saddened to hear of your loss. We do not know each other but our children may have. We adopted our little girl in May of '95 who is now a Senior from Riga Lativa through Small World. Our prayers are with you and all special children that as we tell ours "were chosen".

Al & Dawn,
Diana and I were so sad to hear this news. Juri always made us smile whenever we saw him. He was a bright light to so many. We can only imagine the saddness you both feel. Our faith tells us that we go from "Life To Life". It's that hope that we cling to at times like this and the promise of eternal life together. To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. You will be together again in Heaven and Juri's presence is with you always.

Dawn,
My first memory of Juri was at Hendersonville CC, getting ready for the SA auction. That was his 1st year at the school. He was so full of energy with a great personality. I can only imagine that in the 8 years we have been gone from Sumner co, that he has grown into a delightful young man. Our sympathy is with you and your family.
