Katharine Cashman Obituary

Cashman, Katharine Moran
May 19,1914 - November 26, 2010
Kay Moran Cashman passed away peacefully in Reno, Nevada on November 26, 2010. Kay was born in Berkeley, California May 19, 1914 to Robert B. and Edna V. Moran, and grew up in Los Angeles and La Canada with her three brothers, Robert, Reid and Bill. Kay graduated from Marlborough School and then graduated from Stanford University in 1937, where she played three varsity sports. Kay received a graduate degree in physical therapy from University of Wisconsin, and worked at the Los Angeles Childrens' Hospital before serving as a physical therapist in the Army Air Corps during World War II. She met Dr. Charles Cashman while in the service, and they married and raised their three daughters in Providence, Rhode Island. She took great joy in reading, photography, tennis, skiing, quilting, knitting, gardening, bird-watching and in sharing these activities with her family. After Charles's death in 1980, Kay returned to the Moran family home in La Canada where she lived with her brother Bill for the next twenty years. Kay spent the remainder of her long life in Reno, Nevada living in proximity to her daughter Pat and Pat's family. Kay was distinguished by her numerous life-long friends, many acquired at Stanford, and most especially by her continually up-beat, optimistic nature that she shared with everyone. Kay was predeceased by her parents and by her three brothers. She is survived by her three daughters, Pat, Sue and Kathy, by her four grandchildren, Kathy, Emma, Chad, and Susie, and by her two sons-in-law, Jim Trexler and Harvey Kelsey. In lieu of flowers, please send donations in her name to Huntington Memorial Hospital, 100 W. California Blvd, Pasadena CA 91105 OR on-line at www.huntingtonhospital.com
