Died on April 13, 2014 after a long series of illnesses. World traveller, collector of many things, designer of magical beads, great cook and a lover of the good life and her family. She was born near Buenos Aires, the fifth child of Rafael Fernandez, a noted engineer who developed the deep water harbor of Buenos Aires, and Maria Yayle, from France, an artist and talented hostess. She was always very close to her six siblings and truly enjoyed wonderful family times. She married Fernando Cabanillas, a distinguished architect, in 1942 in Buenos Aires. In 1964 they moved to Southern California which they loved and enjoyed as they saw their family grow with grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her husband predeceased her eight years ago on April 13, 2006. She will be greatly missed by her daughter Ana Maria C. Whitaker (Jerome), her son Alejandro (Maria), her beloved grandchildren Christopher (Patricia) and Paul Whitaker (Genoveva) and Laura Cabanillas, her great grandchildren, Christopher, Michelle, Javier Fernando and Graciela Whitaker, her nephew and niece Rafael and Ana Maria Fernandez and many other relatives. After a celebration of her life on April 22, 2014 at 5 p.m. (Cabot & Sons, 27 Chestnut Street, Pasadena) she will travel one more time to join her beloved family at the family crypt in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
