April 1, 1930 - May 20, 2011
Lyle W. Alberg, age 81, of Hemet, CA, passed away Friday, May 20, 2011, of congestive heart failure at Eisenhower Hospital in Rancho Mirage, CA. Lyle was born April 1, 1930, in Hopkins, MN, to Gertrude and Lawrence Alberg.
He was a member of the Hopkins High School Class of 1948 and a sergeant in the United States Marine Corp, stationed in San Diego and Henderson, NV during the Korean War. While in the Marines he served as an MP and later as a fireman. After his discharge in 1952, he was accepted into the fire safety program at Oklahoma State University. In 1954, Lyle married Denise Farrell in Franklin, MN, and moved to California. While working as a fireman for the Northrop Aircraft Corp., Lyle began work on a degree in Public Administration at USC which he completed in 1957. He later earned a Masters Degree in Public Administration from Eastern Michigan University. He served as the Personnel Officer in Monterey Park from 1956 - 1958, then City Administrator for the cities of Montebello, CA from 1958 - 1968, Independence, MO 1968 - 1978, Arcadia, CA 1978-1981, and Hemet, CA from 1981 - 1988. He retired as City Manager and acting Fire Chief from Hemet in 1988. Following his retirement, Lyle served two terms on the Hemet City Council and as Mayor. He also served as interim city manager for Indian Wells, Desert Hot Springs, La Habra Heights, Imperial City, and for the newly incorporated California communities of Yucca Valley, and Calimesa, helping them to develop their city charters.
Lyle is survived by his wife of 56 years, Denise Julia (Farrell) Alberg; six children - Michael (Sharon) of Yucca Valley, Jeremiah (Yumi) of Tokyo, Japan, Reed (Kim) of Lake Tapawingo, MO, Maryalice Alberg Owings (Eric) of Palm Desert, CA, Reverend Leo Alberg of Gardena, CA, and Julia Alberg Mook of La Quinta, CA; 17 grandchildren - Jeremiah and Christopher Alberg (Tiffany Velasquez); Hannah and Yuriko Alberg; Ryan (Megan), Kelsey, and Kyle Alberg; James, Daniel, John, William Chandler (Amanda), Andrea Chandler Slay (Ron), and Patrick Alberg; and Joseph, Kate, John, and Carolyn Mook; six great-grandchildren - Austin, Adrianna, Aidan, Tiffany, Courtney and Brady Chandler. He is also survived by his sisters, Laura "Toppy" Tisdall (Morris Tisdall), Lynell Wolfe, and Darlene Jacobs.
Throughout his life he loved to travel with his wife and family. He traveled all over the world and enjoyed himself where ever he went. During retirement he worked on rebuilding classic Mustangs and once his health became worse he began building computers. All who knew him will miss having his guidance and support but we know he is forever with us in our hearts.
Lyle's services will be Monday, May 30, at Our Lady of the Valley Church 780 South State Street Hemet, CA 92543. Viewing will be from 2:00 - 4:00, a Rosary at 4:00, and a funeral Mass at 5:00; Reception to follow at the family home.

I was so sad to hear of Lyle's death. I always enjoyed the many visits that Lyle and Denise made to Minneapolis to see family and the stories that would be shared. May God be with you in this sad time. Love, Sara Kay
