(1920-2006) With her family by her side, Martha died peacefully at home in Palo Alto on December 4, 2006 of Parkinson's related pneumonia.
Martha was born in St. Louis, MO to John and Lillian Barringer and grew up in Glendale, CA. She graduated from Stanford University in 1942, a member of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority.
She was married for 60 years to her high school sweetheart, Frankie Albert, innovative T-formation quarterback of Stanford and the San Francisco 49er's.
After retirement, Martha and Frank lived in Pebble Beach and Rancho Mirage. Martha's passion was bridge, which she played at a master's level. She was an avid s ports fan, and also enjoyed dom inoes , books, crossword puzzles and See's candy.
In the 1970's she was a dedicated volunteer at Stanford Hospital. Martha and Frank were longtime members of the Menlo Circus Club and Pebble Beach and Tennis Club.
Throughout her life and to the end, "Marty" as she was fondly known by her friends and family, was a wise and giving soul, always deeply concerned with the well-being and happiness of those around her.
Her family will miss her dearly; daughters, Nancy (John) James of Bend, OR, Jane Willens of Palo Alto, and Terryl (John) Levin of San Francisco; brother Carl (Cathy) Barringer of Santa Paula; grandchildren Reed (Johanna), Heather, Sara (Trevor), Jake (Jennie), Alexandra, and Caroline; one great-granddaughter Kerala, one niece and eight nephews.
Besides her husband Frank, she was preceded in death by her sister Betty, brother John, and granddaughter Lindsay.
The family would like to express their gratitude to her dedicated caretakers, Hilda, Rosa and Marlene and to Pathway's Hospice.
At Martha's request, there will be no memorial service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Pathway's Hospice, 585 N. Mary Avenue, Sunnyvale, CA 94085.
