May 1, 1923 - February 25, 2014 Sister M. Carmel Anderson, CSJ 1923-2014 Sister Carmel was born in Los Angeles of a Swedish father who engendered in her a quiet appreciation and love of nature, and an Irish mother who taught her to love her Catholic faith. After entering the Sisters of St. Joseph of Orange in 1951, Sr. Carmel began a distinguished teaching career that took her from Eureka to San Diego, starting with elementary school teaching and culminating with lecturing for Marymount Weekend College. She was committed to building her students' self-esteem, believing that learning is enhanced by confident students. Sister Carmel entered eternal life on February 25, 2014. She is loved and missed by her family, numerous friends, and the Sisters of her congregation. Her funeral Mass will be held at the Sisters' Motherhouse chapel at 480 S. Batavia Street, Orange 92868 on March 7, 2014 at 10:30am. Interment will follow at 1:00pm. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Sisters of St. Joseph of Orange may be made in Sr. Carmel's name for their ongoing ministries.
