Myrtle Baird Obituary

Baird, Myrtle Christine
April 5, 1917 - July 12, 2010
Myrtle was one of eight children born to Kenneth Twitchell McCoy and Flora Grace Sowerby in 1917 in Peking, China. Her grandparents on both sides were missionaries from England and America. The family moved to Los Angeles from China when Myrtle was 15 years old. She was a student at Santa Monica High School and Willis Business College. She worked for an insurance company in downtown Los Angeles near Pershing Square for four years as a typist. She met the love of her life, Raymond C. Baird at the age of seventeen and they were married in 1940. Raymond was an officer during WWII. Their first born was Chuck in 1942, followed by Valerie Christine in 1947 and Sheila Anne in 1950. Their first home as a family was in Westchester, California. They moved to Santa Monica in 1955. Myrtle was a wonderful mother and took great care of her family. Later, she enrolled in art classes through the Emeritus College and created many beautiful works on paper and canvas. She also loved to write and was an avid reader and knew European history like the back of her hand. Myrtle was also a lover of animals and donated to the Humane Society for many years. She was the loving grandmother of Elizabeth, David, Paul, Christopher, and Valerie, and great grandmother to Raven, Emily Grace, and Ashley Celeste.

Myrtle was precious and beautiful and will live in the hearts of her loved ones and friends forever.
