Newton (Kap) Kapwell died on July 3, 2013 from natural causes at the age of 88.
He was born on February 14, 1925 in Los Angeles to Julius and Rebecca (Betty) Kaplowitz.
On August 11, 1946, he started his life with the true love of his life, Miriam Corrine Cohn. In 60 years of marriage, he never wavered in his love for his wife. Kap and Miriam lived for over 50 years of their marriage in the home they built in Rosemead.
Kap was a veteran of World War II, where he served as an aviation radioman. He also worked on special assignment in the early use of radar in warfare for the U.S. Navy.
He later began his own business as sole owner of Valley Jewelry Company in Alhambra for 35 years, after which he established a partnership creating Graphic Distributors for another 25 years.
Kap was a friend and mentor to many, young and old alike, and an avid volunteer for the Gilroy Garlic Festival and for fundraisers at Rod Kelley Elementary School with his grandsons. His family meant the world to him and his grandsons were his greatest pride and joy.
Many charities close to Kap's heart have received generous donations over the years.
Kap was preceded in death by his loving wife Miriam in 2005.
He is survived by his two daughters, Jan Kapwell, residing in Rosemead, and Lori Kapwell, residing in Gilroy, and his grandsons, Chase Weggeland and Zac Weggeland, and Zac's wife Cheryl, all residing in Gilroy. He is also survived by his brother Sidney Kapwell and Sid's wife Alene, also in Rosemead.
Donations may be sent to the Alzheimer's Foundation to honor his wife, Miriam.
