Paul HACHIGIAN Obituary

HACHIGIAN, Paul Moses Son of Moses and Elizabeth, passed quietly at home surrounded by family on Friday, December 3rd. Paul is survived by his loving wife Rose of 56 years; his four sons and their wives Mark and Monique, Jay and Jill, Kirk and Kathy and Paul and Sosy; nine grandchildren Lea, Amy, Paul, Kara, Steven, Alex, Kirk, Alina and Grace; brother Jack and many nieces and nephews. Paul's parents were Armenian immigrants, his father a tailor and mother a weaver. He was born in Paterson, New Jersey on January 7, 1924 and was raised there during the Depression with his brother Jack. After serving proudly in the Army Aircorps during World War II, Paul graduated from Florida Southern College on the GI Bill with degrees in math and physics. He enjoyed a successful business career which took him and his family to the San Fernando Valley, Chicago and finally to Newport Beach in 1972.
Paul was deeply devoted to the Armenian Church and was instrumental in the founding of St. Mary Armenian Apostolic Church in Costa Mesa. He was an active supporter of many local charities including the Orange County Trex Fraternity. If you knew Paul, you know he was quintessential "old school" - strong, direct, fair and often hysterically funny. He loved his Church, family and friends and they loved him. He will be deeply missed and he has left a wonderful legacy. Church services will be held Wednesday, December 08, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at Saint Mary Armenian Apostolic Church (148 East 22nd Street, Costa Mesa). In lieu of flowers please send donations to Saint Mary Armenian Apostolic Church in his memory.

Dearest Rose and "boys" and families. It has taken me this long to figure out what to say as I am deeply saddened by Paul's passing and hope that it was peaceful for his sake. I know he had lung cancer and that was all I knew, being "out of the loop" for far too long. That said, you were always in my thoughts and hopefully, one day, Paul and I will sit together in one of God's many mansions, and have a great heart to heart talk. I have had you all in my prayers, that God will grant you peace and comfort and heal your hearts of the pain you are enduring. I know that Paul was a great father and between him and you Rose, you contributed greatly to humanity by raising such wonderful men. Seeing their accomplishments in life has given me great pride and the knowledge that the apples did not fall far from the trees. I hope that the future will bring us face to face before too long. Dear Aunt Rose, Mark, Jay, Kirk and Paul;
We are very sorry to hear of the passing of cousin Paul.
I (cousin Marie-Louise, cousin Gloria Hachigian-Ericsen's youngest daughter) remember cousin Paulie (as we called him) and Jacky from visits to our grandparents house up in Elizaville, NY. where we spent summers as children. We remember the large get togethers and how excited everyone was that 'Paulie and Jacky" were coming up.
And don't forget all of the wonderful Armenian food cooked by my grandmother Florence Haghigian and mom. Those were good times.

I can see cousin (we called him "uncle") Paulie walking with my Poppy (Alexander Paul Hachigian) in heaven... just as I remember them doing together in Elizaville when I was little. I also remember Paulie sitting with me after my Poppy's memorial. He spoke about his relationship with and love for my grandfather. It was clear that my Poppy meant a lot to Paulie too.
Sitting with me under a shade tree in the front yard of that Elizaville house, Paulie shared (with amazing detail) many stories about my Great Uncle Moses and Poppy's experiences as Armenian genocide survivors and their eventual immigration to America. These stories opened my eyes about what my grandfather lived through. I learned things about him that I never knew before. I will forever remember that afternoon and will forever appreciate Paulie taking the time and great interest in keeping our Hachigian history alive by sharing those stories with me. May God grant peace & healing to Aunt Rose, Mark, Paul, Jay Kirk, their wives and children.
Godspeed on your journey to Heaven and may you rest in peace, Uncle Paulie!

Dear Aunt Rose and cousins Mark, Jay, Kirk and Paul:

We all feel so helpless out here and wish that we could be with all of you during this sad time. Uncle Paul was such a wonderful uncle to me and to my brothers all of our lives. Although we didn't get to spend much time together during the last several years, I have always remembered him with a huge smile on his face. He made me laugh like no one else could. You were all so blessed to have him for a dad. He was a special, special person and he will be sadly missed by all of us. May God bless you all and your families and know that I am thinking of all of you during this time. I love you all.
