Reuben Agran

Agran, Reuben October 18, 1913 - June 29, 2012 Reuben Agran of Laguna Woods died June 29, 2012, shortly after sitting down to his weekly poker game. He was born October 18, 1913, in Chicago, the eldest of four children of Max and Sophie Agranowsky; his siblings Abraham Agran of Chicago and Ruth Fischer of Los Angeles survive. In 1938 Reuben married Selma Elizabeth Meyerson. Selma died in 2009, close to her 93rd birthday. Selma and Rube drove to Mexico for their honeymoon--they loved to travel. Following WWII they moved west, and Reuben soon established his CPA practice in Los Angeles. Reuben was honest, forthright, diligent, and, along with Selma, exceedingly generous. In 1954 they built their home in Studio City, where they raised Michael of Beverly Hills (Elaine), Larry of Irvine (Phyllis), and Edward of Cincinnati (Charlotte Fairlie). Rube loved his fruit trees and roses and often expressed surprise that he and Sel had landed in such a locale: "Views like Switzerland," he'd say. They cultivated wide circles of friends, prizing conversation, food, cards, and entertaining. Reuben always attributed their "good life" to luck--those who knew Rube know that hard work, serious design, and admirable intentions had a lot more to do with it. Reuben was a fine man who did a lot more good in the world than he ever would claim. He is survived, also, by five grandchildren, their spouses, and four great-grandchildren. A private memorial service will take place at a later date.
