Richard Bertine Obituary

Bertine, Richard Rene
November 4, 1917 - October 1, 2010
(92), died peacefully in Palm Springs, CA. Born in St. Louis, MO, Richard moved as a child to Santa Monica, CA; was a graduate of USC, a member of Alpha Kappa Psi, Alpha Zeta Chapter; and served as a U.S. Naval officer.
From 1959-1983 he owned Richard Bertine Antiques in Beverly Hills in the Frank Lloyd Wright Building on Rodeo Drive. After retiring, he split his time between Beverly Hills and San Mateo, eventually moving to Palm Springs. A mass offering was said for him at Our Lady of Solitude Church, Palm Springs. Richard's goddaughter, Maria Burton, and friend, Roger Burton, took him back to St. Louis for funeral mass at St. Francis Xavier College Church and burial in his Calvary Cemetery family plot where he now rests with his sister and brother-in-law, Florence and Reginald Watt, and his parents, John and Helena Buffo Bertini.

I was saddened by the news of Richard's passing even though I know the past few years have been very difficult for him. I am a frequent visitor to Palm Springs; and for the last 25 years, I would visit with Richard frequently and sometimes with our mutual friends Matt Olson and Fred Schildmacher. Richard was always charming and gracious. He enjoyed our trips driving around the desert, and we always made it a point to get to La Quinta for lunch. I will miss our phone calls and correspondence, and especially miss getting together with him on my next trip to Palm Springs. However, I know that he is at peace now and at rest in heaven with the God he loved and with his beloved sister and parents.
