Ruth Kennedy Obituary

Ruth Kennedy
1920-2010

The elegant Ruth Kennedy passed away Sunday, September 26th, 2010. Not only was she movie star beautiful, she had the heart of a saint. She was the most adventurous person I have ever known, and was passionate about art and orchids. On one of her many orchid collecting trips through the Andes, she rode with a broken leg on the back of a donkey, and on crutches made her way through the wild to find new species. She was game for almost anything and had inexhaustible energy. She gave her time to LACMA for more than thirty years, and was one of the original eight docents. With her late husband George Kennedy, she had an extensive art collection and the largest private orchid collection in the world. Her spiritual life gave her strength, and unmatched magnetism. For those of you who were privileged enough to know my mother, then you experienced firsthand how she could draw you in with her warmth and graciousness. My mother will be truly missed beyond measure. She is survived by her three children, her four beloved grandchildren, and two great grandchildren.
The memorial service will be held at All Saints Episcopal Church in Beverly Hills, 504 North Camden Dr., Beverly Hills, CA 90210, October 8th, 2010 at 1:45 p.m.

One of the most beautiful things about Ruth was her ability to make people she had just met feel like she had known them all her life. I experienced it first hand. I will miss the smile that lit up a room. She was a dear friend and treasure.
