Ruth Murray "Kim" BACKER

BACKER, Ruth "Kim" Murray Dec. 10, 1929 - Oct. 25, 2010 Pebble Beach, CA - Ruth "Kim" Murray Backer passed away at her home on October 25, 2010, surrounded by loving family and friends. Kim was the beloved wife of fifty-eight years of Rushton; devoted mother to Rush, Regan, Melanie and Kevin; devoted mother-in-law to Lisa; proud grandmother of Joy and Jackson and dedicated aunt to Mark and Tom Sands, Lucy Berger, Spencer Sitton, Jim and Tom Backer and Annie Davids. Blessed with an infectious Irish wit, a strong Catholic faith and an insatiable appetite for literature and music, Kim also will be remembered for inspiring creativity in others and the close friendships she maintained throughout her life. Kim was born in Alhambra, CA, on December 10, 1929 to Ruth and Arthur Murray. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brother, Artie Murray, and sister, Julia Murray Sands. Kim graduated from UCLA in 1952 where she was active in the Pi-Phi Sorority, Uni Camp, Student Board and the Cal Club. Recently, Kim was actively involved in the Red Hat Society. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 3:00 PM on Wednesday, November 3rd at the Blessed Sacrament Chapel of Carmel Mission, 3080 Rio Rd., Carmel. An inurnment ceremony will be held at 3:00 PM on Saturday, November 6th at Holy Sepulcher Cemetery, 7845 Santiago Canyon Road, Orange, CA. Memorial donations may be made in Kim's name to either the Sisters of Social Service, 4316 Lanai Road, Encino, CA, 91436 or to UCLA Uni Camp, 900 Hilgard Avenue, Suite 301, Los Angeles, CA 90024.
