January 2, 1919 - April 23, 2014 Saul Cohen, beloved husband of Dorothy (Chaiken) Cohen, brother of Lorraine Hill, father of Margaret (Cohen) Bierschbach and Arlan Cohen, father-in law of Don Bierschbach and Jessica Cohen, Grandfather of and Michael and Jennifer Cohen, grandfather-in-law of Tiffany Chang and Joseph Garcia, passed away peacefully on April 23 at the age of 95. Saul was a child of the depression, the first person in his family to finish college. He worked his way through City College, then, after marrying his high school sweetheart, Dorothy, worked during the day and earned his law degree at Brooklyn Law at night. He served in the Pacific during World War II, seeing action at Iwo Jima. After the war, he began work in the Trust Department at the Royal Industrial Bank, a small Wall Street bank, which after multiple mergers, became a part of Nat West. Saul rose to the level of senior Vice President, and was valued for his shrewd negotiating skills and pragmatism. He was married to Dorothy for more than 50 years, and nursed her through the last five years of her life. He missed her deeply for the last twenty years he lived without her, and considered her love for him to be the luckiest thing that had ever happened to him. He loved and supported his two children, Margaret and Arlan, and treasured Jennifer and Michael, his two grandchildren. In any family crisis or emergency, Saul was always there to be counted on for calmness and support. During the last five years of his life, his caretaker, May Lagman, became part of the family, and he cared for her as he did for his own children. He will be sorely missed. Services at Eden Memorial Park, Sunday, April 27 at 2 PM.
