February 3, 1945 - April 8, 2014 Susan Jane Flora, 69, of Beverly Hills passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 8. A three-time cancer survivor, Susan was a champion of life. Her strength and determination were awe-inspiring to all who knew her. Susan was born in 1945 in the Midwest, adopted by Cleopha and Rudolph Flora and raised in Hastings, Michigan. A proud graduate of the University of Michigan, her career goal was to move to New York City and work in fashion retail - which she made happen immediately. Starting out as a buying assistant at Lord & Taylor, Susan was quickly promoted, moving on to executive positions at other major department stores, and eventually owning a chain of Benetton stores throughout the United States. Susan was an avid golfer and a member of the Wilshire Country Club. She loved biographies and musical theater, saving the Playbills from all the productions she attended. Her favorite Broadway shows were Camelot, The King & I, and Chorus Line. Susan was renowned for her delicious lemon meringue pie and her annual Academy Awards Night caviar pie. Susan Flora is survived by her longtime companion and business partner Anne Cole, her son Frederick Flora, his wife Angel and grandson Gabriel. Susan will be lovingly remembered by a cadre of devoted friends, as well as a fluffy four-legged pal named Ofie. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be given to the
or the Wounded Warrior Project.
